Past Events
Online gathering November 2025
We were able to host an online event at the end of the year with specific references to issues arising in the education system as well as the current funding climate. This was a free event for our members to attend as well as anyone who may be new to the movement and was keen to find out more information.
We are hoping to host more of these regular informal online meet ups during 2026.
Launch events March and April 2024
We hosted 2 in person gatherings in March 2024, one in the North of England at Wainsgate Dances and one in the South at Chisenhale Dance. We also hosted 2 online launches in April 2024 to officially launch our campaign for better working conditions for Freelance Dance Workers. From this we gained our very first members of the movement! A big thank you to our hosts who allowed us to use their wonderful spaces and connect with their dance communities.
Freelance Dance Artists’ Working Ecology – Gathering February 2023
Facilitated by freelance artist Katye Coe alongside Karen Wood from Coventry University’s Centre for Dance Research, This ‘gathering’ brought together freelance dance artists, organisations, academics, politicians and practitioners with an investment in freelance working. It is the culmination of a year-long project, funded by the British Academy Innovation Fellowship that was awarded to Karen Wood and delivered in collaboration with One Dance UK and 20 freelance artists from the UK.
Focusing on collectivity, we delivered an event that was not a traditional symposium format – we wanted to gather people who would commit to action.The gathering centred care and access, facilitated collective conversations and based our interactions on deep listening and attention.
